The French proposal for unblocking the Republic of North Macedonia’s EU accession talks start is bad for Bulgaria, as it takes away the initiative from the two countries and turns them into the subject of negotiations with the European Commission, Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said at a briefing in Parliament on Wednesday.
Vazrazhdane is categorically against the consideration of the proposal as it delegates Bulgaria’s rights to negotiate to the European Commission, he said.
Kostadinov argued that a new Euro-Atlantic majority is taking shape, speaking about joint votes of GERB-UDF and Continue the Change.
According to him, submitting an English language version of the proposal to the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee is totally unacceptable. A certified translation is needed because some words may have different meanings and may be interpreted in different ways, he said. "We will have to discuss a text in foreign language which is indicative of our Government’s attitude towards the Bulgarian Parliament," Kostadinov added.
