Over 40 events involving representatives of 38 countries from all continents will be presented during the 2023 edition of the Varna Summer International Music Festival, the venue’s Artistic Director Mario Hossen told a news conference here on Wednesday.
At the official opening of the Festival on June 24, the Varna State Opera Symphony Orchestra, conducted by rising star Delyana Lazarova, will perform Pancho Vladigerov’s Vardar Rhapsody, a Trumpet Cocerto by Armenian composer Alexander Arutiunian with French virtuoso Romain Leleu as the soloist, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.
Vladigerov’s works will be highlighted at the Festival, Hossen said. On July 26, in the Music Laboratory module, the piano duo Desislava Shtereva and Evgenia Simeonova will play the composer’s 13 Transcriptions for Two Pianos. An exhibition titled "Pancho Vladigerov and the Music Kaleidoscope of the 20th Century: Trends, Links, Reflections" will be on at the Festival and Congress Centre Varna between June 27 and July 6.
The Varna Summer Crossover Programme will feature the Vienna Academic Orchestra. Milcho Leviev’s 85th birth anniversary will be marked by a special concert titled "Sonata ’57″ at Varna’s Summer Theatre on August 11. Taking part will be Vicky Almazidou, Theodosii Spassov, Antoni Donchev and the Vladigerov Brothers. At the event, Varna Opera Symphony Orchestra conductor Gancho Ganchev will celebrated his 60th birthday.
At the City Art Gallery between September 1 and 3, an international symposium will be devoted to "Tradition and Universality in Spanish Music: from the Baroque to the Present Day". Composer Tomas Marco will be a lecturer at the event, Hossen pointed out. The focus on Spain is timed in which the July 1 start of the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council. A concert under the auspices of Spain’s Ambassdor in Spain Alejandro Polanco Mata, involving the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, will take place on June 30.
