President Rumen Radev congratulated the 114th anniversary of Bulgaria’s independence with a post on Facebook on Thursday.
Radev wrote that 114 years ago, Bulgaria’s people rejected any claim that their country could be subject to anyone, that Bulgaria’s national development, public life, and culture could be hostage to someone else’s will.
The declaration of independence was the inevitable result of a consciousness of our own national dignity and the audacity of this example will continue to inspire our future, he noted.
"The great lesson of 1908 is that the only legitimate expression of the popular will can and must be the Bulgarian state. It is our duty to remember that Independence is not a one-time act and every generation must defend it against external and internal violations," Radev’s post reads.
