Sofia City Prosecutor Iliana Kirilova announced that the head of the police in Petrich, Southwestern Bulgaria, Borislav Getsev and two other police officers have been remanded in custody. The prosecution alleges that Getsev led a criminal group that was involved with bribery, money laundering, drug dealing and crimes against justice.
Gendarmerie and members of the specialized anti-corruption squad arrived at the Petrich Police Station on Monday and detained the town’s police chief as part of the investigation into the alleged abuse and corrupt practices. Later Monday, Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office reported that pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in connection with an investigation carried out by the Internal Security Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.
