The opening of a new consulate in the Republic of North Macedonia is a complex political issue. It should be discussed with the authorities there. This is what the caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Milkov answered when asked by an MP about the possibilities of opening a new Bulgarian consulate in the RNM during the Wednesday meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy.
Milkov said the caretaker government does not intend to make such a decision, since it is a prerogative of the regular government.
Regarding the Consul General in Bitola, Minister Milkov explained that his mandate expires on January 15. An interim consul will take his place, as no exequatur has been issued from the Macedonian side at this point for our new consul general, who has long been set to leave. This exequatur is months in the making, Milkov explained.
