A handover ceremony between the outgoing and the incoming presidents of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) was held at the BAS President’s Office in Sofia on Monday. Julian Revalski presented his successor Evelina Slavcheva with the symbolic key to the BAS in the presence of the institution’s General Assembly Chairman Vassil Kirov and other high-ranking members.
On December 2, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, a chemist, was elected by the General Assembly to head the BAS.
Revalski said Slavcheva is perfectly familiar with the BAS’ work as she served two terms as General Assembly Chairperson. "I have no doubt that she will move forward and will have no trouble navigating the work terrain, but she will face many problems addressing day-to-day issues as the volume of work is rather big. The BAS is a heterogeneous organization, in the good sense of the word. It operates in many diverse fields, which requires strict attention and hard work to keep it going forward," Revalski said.
He added that he is leaving a resilient BAS after years of difficulties. Slavcheva said she is taking over the institution in excellent condition. "All good practices you have established will definitely be continued during the new term," she said.
