The Ministry of Education and Science published Monday on its website the list of approved projects for funding of 141 Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad. Funding of a total of BGN 1,644,000 under the Bulgarian Language and Culture Abroad National Programme will be provided for 11,727 Bulgarian youngsters in the new 2022/23 school year.
A total of 58 Sunday schools in Ukraine applied, 55 of which were approved. The 55th Bulgarian Sunday School in Odessa, Ukraine, has 5,395 Bulgarian students who study Bulgarian language and literature, geography and history from the 1st to the 11th grade.
The funds under the programme are used to buy textbooks and additional reading, folk costumes and folk instruments. The aim of the programme is to promote preservation and popularization of Bulgarian language, ethnic and cultural background abroad, as well as the national, cultural and spiritual identity of Bulgarians across the world and Bulgarian communities abroad.
