The ferryboat link between Tutrakan and Oltenita on the Romanian bank of the Danube is expected to be put into operation in the summer of 2023, Tutrakan Municipality Mayor Dimitar Stefanov told BTA Thursday after meeting his Romanian counterpart Milescu Costinel.
The sides have agreed to launch the construction of the ferryboat project infrastructure in three months, as well as the locations of the docks on both banks.
Stefanov and Costinel agreed that the greatest problem with the infrastructure was the lack of a bypass allowing vehicles access to boarding the ferry. That has already been solved with a secured working draft and funding.
Tutrakan municipality will provide the terrain as an in-kind contribution, while private persons will develop the ferry and the infrastructure, Stefanov said.
The facility will ferry cars, buses, vans and under 12 t trucks. It is expected to facilitate farmers and fishermen from the region around Tutrakan who sell their produce in Bucharest, as well as to increase the number of tourists from Romania and Ukraine.
