Concert for 80th Anniversary of Rescue of Bulgarian Jews Held in New York

A concert evening commemorating the 80th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews in World War II and honouring the Holocaust victims was held at the Center for Jewish History in New York, the Bulgarian Consulate General there told BTA. The three-hour commemorative event was attended by close to 250 people.
The commemoration was organized by the Bulgarain Consulate General in New York, the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan, the Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York, (BCENY) the American Jewish Committee (AJC), the American Society for Jewish Music (ASJM), the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, and the Mannes Sounds Festival.
The programme featured remarks from ASJM President Michael Leavitt, Consul General of Bulgaria in New York Angel Angelov, AJC New York Director Joshua L. Kramer, and Prof Joseph Benatov from the University of Pennsylvania, a presentation of a documentary by movie producer Elka Nikolova, and a concert featuring music by Bulgarian and American composers of Jewish descent, performed by BCENY members, Prof Eva Volitzer, and students from the Mannes Sounds Festival. 
The musical component of the event was coordinated by Prof Pavlina Dokovska, who was instrumental in the event’s organization.
The sculpture "Spirit" by Bulgarian Jewish sculptor Kaya Deckelbaum, celebrating the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews, was prominently displayed.
