Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF) leader Ahmed Dogan has said that "the President’s power to appoint a caretaker government must be restored", and "all efforts must be made to accelerate this process". Dogan was speaking at a meeting with ARF MPs broadcast on Facebook on Sunday.
Dogan said that the constitutional amendments adopted in December 2023 have had adverse effects, including "enabling the formation of personal cabinets within the government", something he considers "incompatible with a democratic system". He suggested that the revisions have negatively impacted the balance of powers.
The ARF leader noted that "this is a crisis situation by all standards". He said that parliamentary groups should communicate with one another, with the exception of Delyan Peevski whom he referred to as "the boy". "We must be very careful and work out a common strategy for action and, when necessary, counteraction," Dogan said.
"We do not know how long this Parliament will last, but it all depends on the boy’s behaviour", Dogan said, adding that "he will become destructive when power is taken away from him". "We must have a stance in the negotiation process," the ARF leader said. "At present, the parliamentary groups are not communicating with one another, but from what I have gathered, there is a demand for us," Dogan added.
