Interviewed on Bulgarian National Radio on Sunday, politicians from the government coalition and the opposition commented on the chances of Continue the Change to form a cabinet headed by Assen Vassilev.
Rosen Kosturkov MP of Continue the Change: The chance of the present Parliament to elect a new cabinet is 50% and counting. Prime minister-designate Assen Vassilev said on Friday, when he was mandated to form a government, that he would seek at least 121 MPs in the 240-seat Parliament to back a governance programme.
After the consultations with BSP for Bulgaria, Democratic Bulgaria and independent MPs on the weekend, Continue the Change will talk with individual MPs of other parliamentary groups who could back such a programme.
Democratic Bulgaria Co-chair Atanas Atanassov: The goal of 121 MPs is attainable. Still, a cabinet is elected by the majority of voting MPs, meaning that a new cabinet could be voted in by fewer than 121 MPs.
GERB deputy floor leader Toma Bikov: All 59 MPs of GERB-UDF will vote against a cabinet proposed on the first mandate. GERB-UDF, the second largest parliamentary force, will not try to form a government on the second mandate.
